Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
